Fix Error 0x80240030 while trying to update Windows

At times, you might encounter “Error: 0x80240030” while updating Windows. This issue arises when connection from computer to server stops working, due to incorrect configuration of proxy or firewall settings.

The solution to the problem follow the instructions to fix “error 0x80240030” while trying to updating windows:

Step 01: Remove characters from the proxy exception list and clear proxy cache.

Step 02: For Windows XP, Windows 2000:

1) Click ‘Start’ and then click ‘Run’.

2) Type ‘notepad’ and press ‘OK’.

3) Copy and paste ‘proxycfg -dnet stop wuauservnet start wuauserv’ line into the notepad.

4) Click on ‘File’ menu and click ‘Save As’.

5) Type ‘fixproxy.bat’ in File name field.

6) Click ‘Save As’ type and select ‘All Files’.

7) Click on ‘Save’ to save the file on desktop.

8) Double-click the ‘fixproxy.bat’ file on desktop.

9) Try to install updates again.

Step 03: For Windows Vista:

1) Click ‘Start’.

2) Type ‘notepad’ in the ‘Start search’ box and press ‘Enter’.

3) Copy and paste ‘proxycfg -dnet stop wuauservnet start wuauserv’ line into the notepad.

4) Click ‘File’ menu and click ‘Save As’.

5) Type ‘fixproxy.bat’.

6) Select ‘All’ Files near Save as type.

7) Click ‘Save’ to save ‘tehfixproxy.bat’ file to your desktop.

8) Right-click the ‘fixproxy.bat’ file and then click ‘Run’ as administrator.

9) Type ‘password’ or click ‘continue’ in the dialog box that appears.

10) Try to install updates again.

Or To enable ‘Automatically detect’ settings in Internet Explorer:

Step 01: Click ‘Start’ and then ‘Internet Explorer’.

Step 02: Click on ‘Tools’ menu.

Step 03: Click ‘Internet Options’.

Step 04: Click ‘Connections’ tab.

Step 05: Click on ‘LAN Settings’.

Step 06: Check ‘Select the Automatically detect settings’ check box.

Step 07: Click on ‘OK’.

Fix F parameter not specified

Without speciifying any parameters it will run and report any errors that it finds. Here are the parameters for chkdsk:

/F - During the disk check CHKDSK will correct all found errors. All
corrections will be written to the disk, so it is reasonable to use the
/C parameter to save the previous condition of the disk.

/C - CHKDSK will save the correction backup information on a disk,
specified after the parameter without space, to a file named:

undo_(checked_disk).chk

You should not save to the disk, which is under checking. This
parameter may only be used together with the /F parameter.

If the CHKDSK command detects "lost" clusters on the disk, you are
prompted with a question: Convert lost clusters to files? If you type
"Yes" , the CHKDSK with /F parameter will write every cluster to a file named:

FILEnnnn.PTS,

where: nnnn - is a hexadecimal number, starting with 0000, FILEnnnn.PTS files are created in the main directory of the specified disk. These files can be then viewed and used, if they contain useful information.

/S - During the disk check CHKDSK will use only the first FAT copy.

/U - With this parameter the CHKDSK will restore the initial condition of
the disk if the corrections were made using the /C switch. A drive
containing the backup information should be specified immediately
after the /U key with no trailing spaces as:
undo_(checked_disk).chk

WARNING! If the disk has been modified after correcting the errors with
the /F /C parameters, e.g. files were amended, deleted etc., then the
/U parameter should not be used to avoid new errors.

/V - CHKDSK, will display all file names and their paths.

Fix Error 646 in Microsoft Office updates in Windows 7

Windows 7 users have recently reported errors when trying to install updates for Microsoft Office applications through Windows Update or through Microsoft Update. The errors codes generated are:

Error code 1 - 0x80070646

Error code 2 - 646

Error code 3 - “Error 1606 Could not access network location %APPDATA%”

This error known by most users are the "646 error" is an MSI installer error that will only occur when the updates are installed via the Windows Update control Panel. As per Microsoft, this problem is potentially a result of an inconsistent/incorrect environmental variable (%AppData%)

Stress not, for the fix is below:

- Open Registry Editor

- Navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

- Ensure that the value for AppData is %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming
To change the value, double click on Appdata, then change the string to %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming

- Close Registry editor and try Windows Update again. A reboot is not necessary.

NOTE:
If the problem persists, navigate to the following keys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\

- Ensure that the value for AppData for both these keys is also %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming

Importing Gmail Contacts to Outlook

Importing Gmail Contacts

Exporting your Gmail contact information is basically handled the same for you to use the file to import into any email application. Just log into your account, select Contacts and then individual or All contact then Export to a location on your hard drive.

Next choose Outlook’s CSV format to allow the file to easily transfer into the application.

The next thing we need to do is import that contacts file into Outlook 2007.  Open Outlook and click File \ Import and Export.

When the Import and Export Wizard opens select “Import from another program or file”then hit Next.

Next select “Comma Separated Values (DOS)” and click Next

Browse for the Excel CSV file and choose options about duplicate entries and continue by clicking Next

Here you will want to select the appropriate folder or location you want to keep the information hit Next.

The next screen basically verifies what we just did an also offers the option to change the destination or Map Custom Fields (which is a whole other topic we can get into at another time) hit Finish and your done
