Fix Catalyst Control Center Error

  When did you encounter with this error message regarding the Catalyst Control Center?

The error for the Catalyst Control Center is related to the Graphics card installed on your computer, you may check with the manufacturer if there are any updated drivers for the graphics card which needs to be installed to take care of the issue.

You may try to uninstall and reinstall the graphics card and check if that helps.
To uninstall device
1. Click on Start menu, type in devmgmt.msc to open the Device Manager.
2. The Device Manager will then display a list of installed devices in the right pane of the console.
3. Expand the category for Display Adapter.
4. Right-click the device and select Uninstall.
A dialog box will pop up asking you to confirm ‘Uninstall’. Click OK to proceed.

Note: While you are uninstalling the network adapter make sure that you select the option to delete the driver software as well.

PC Speed Up Tweaks and Tricks at Your Finger Tips

The average computer user works for several hours a day on the computer. He creates, edits, saves and deletes files and programs all the time. Like any machine, the computer too needs a little sprucing up from time to time. Here are a few simple tips that will help your PC speed up despite the heavy load of work.

First of all, it is important to keep the hard disk clean, as much as possible, that is. Make sure that there aren’t any redundant or useless files that you do not require. For shared computers having multiple profiles, this problem can become a serious one. There are also chances of the existence of duplicate files or data. Once every few months, take a day to browse through all the drives and make sure that there are no such useless or duplicate files.

Secondly, for PC speed up, it is important to get rid of temporary or history files. For this purpose, the Disk cleanup, the built-in utility of Windows, will be a great help. It can be accessed by typing cleanmgr.exe in the Run box from the start menu and then hitting Enter. The utility will first scan the computer (i.e. the drives) for any errors. This may actually take a while, and it is generally advised to not do anything else on the computer during this scanning period. After the scan is over, the utility can get rid of the history and temporary internet folders, recently used documents lists, unused desktop icons, recycle bin contents etc. It will also take care of the drives one by one and remove all redundant files, but only after asking for confirmation. Make sure no important files get deleted by un-ticking those which you want to keep.

Another reason why the computer slows down is having a large number of drives. It is always better to have just a few, preferably, drives. Close on its heels is the issue of virtual memory. If the space allotted to the virtual memory is too small, then the computer will perform slowly. So for PC speed up, right click on the My Computer icon. Then follow this path: System Properties > Advanced > Performance > Settings > Advanced > Virtual memory. Increase the allotment of virtual memory if the space is too low.

Similarly, it is important to increase the space allotment for Windows page file for a PC speed up. If the Windows page file memory size is too small, then the processor speed will become slow and hence the computer’s.

The computer can also become slow because of the infection of malware like viruses, spyware and adware. Virus hits town office computers

HUDSON – A virus described as “virulent” attacked computers in town offices, derailing motor vehicle renewals for nearly three days and knocking police and fire departments briefly off line.

Information technology staff had the tedious job of bringing the town back online, server by server, work station by work station.

“This thing was spreading, mutating and hiding,” said Town Administrator Steve Malizia.

The towns 15 to 20 servers and roughly 160 workstations were affected, Malizia said Friday.

“I’ve been here 14 years, and I’ve never seen one get this far,” he said.

The virus showed up Wednesday morning in town computers.

“We don’t know how. We haven’t done the postmortem yet,” Malizia said.

Town offices receive lots of e-mail each day in this community of 24,000 residents, Malizia said. Someone might have opened an infected attachment, he said.

“We get a lot of e-mail. We assume it’s from someone in town who needs something,” he said.

There is no criminal investigation because the attack appears to be something random that just got past the security safeguards in the town computer system.

“This isn’t like someone hacked into our computer system,” Police Chief Jason Lavoie said.

The police department was brought back online by 9 p.m. Wednesday, the day the virus struck, Lavoie said.

When the virus hit, the IT staff was able to contain it by shutting down and cleaning systems, he said.

“They’ve been doing an outstanding job,” Lavoie said.

“We didn’t lose any data,” he said.

Emergency services were brought back up first, and were down for less than a day, he said.

During that time, police and fire were dispatched manually using a backup system, Malizia said.

As of Friday morning, the town clerk’s office was brought back up and workers were scrambling to catch up with car registrations. 

Some residents dropped off registrations at the town. Those now must be inputted into the system and the registrations mailed out. 

No information appears to have been lost, Malizia said. But town employees are scrambling to catch up.
